Effects of the Ice Age are
everywhere written on the land. 50 000 years
ago the ice fields of the Wisconsin Glacier
covered this area in some places to a depth
of two miles. Moving only a few feet a day,
it alternately smoothed and gouged the islands
exposing bedrock and depositing soil while creating
the ponds and bogs that now support over 35
species of reptiles and amphibians.
